Acupuncture in Sioux City

At Chiropractic First of Iowa, we believe true wellness comes from addressing the root cause, not just masking symptoms. Acupuncture is one more tool we use to help your body do what it was designed to do: heal itself. Using fine, sterile needles placed at specific points along the body’s energy pathways, acupuncture helps clear blockages, restore balance, and get your natural energy, or Qi, flowing freely again.

Why Your Body Needs Balance

Think of Qi as the current running through your body, carrying energy and nourishment to every system you have. When life gets in the way, stress, poor sleep, an old injury, sitting at a desk all day, that current can get dammed up. And just like a river backing up, one blockage can throw off everything downstream.

Most of the time, your body is remarkably good at working through these disruptions on its own. But when a blockage sticks around too long, that’s usually when we start seeing it show up as pain, fatigue, or chronic health issues. Acupuncture gives your body a helping hand, clearing the path so healing can happen the way nature intended.

Who Acupuncture Can Help

We’ve seen acupuncture make a real difference for patients dealing with:

  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Digestive issues like IBS, heartburn, and bloating
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Fertility challenges
  • Stress, anxiety, and mood struggles
  • Chronic pain
  • Recovery after an accident or injury
  • Post-surgical healing
  • Pregnancy discomfort

Getting Ready for Your Visit

Come in wearing something comfortable and loose-fitting, acupuncture points can be tucked in spots that are tough to reach through tight clothing. It’s fine to eat something light beforehand, just try not to come in on a completely full stomach, since your body does its best healing when it’s not busy digesting a big meal. We’d also recommend skipping alcohol or other substances before your appointment so your body can respond to treatment the way it’s meant to.

Your First Appointment

Every visit starts with getting to know you. We will walk through your health history, do a physical exam, and check for details that reveal a lot about where your Qi may be out of balance. From there, our acupuncturist builds a treatment plan around your specific needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Many patients start their acupuncture treatment during that very first visit. Depending on what your body needs, we may also recommend pairing acupuncture with chiropractic care or nutritional support for a more complete path to feeling better. At Chiropractic First of Iowa, our goal has always been to treat the whole person, and acupuncture fits right into that philosophy.

Common Questions About Acupuncture

Does acupuncture hurt?
Not really. There’s a small chance of minor bruising, but the needles are so fine that most patients feel little to nothing at all.

Is it actually safe?

Yes. Acupuncture has been safely practiced for thousands of years and continues to be one of the gentlest forms of natural healing available today.

How long does a session take?

Once the needles are placed, they typically stay in for 30 to 45 minutes. Most patients find this part so relaxing, don’t be surprised if you doze off!

How many visits will I need?

Every body is different. Some patients feel real relief in just a few sessions, while others with more complex or long-standing issues may need a dozen or more visits to see lasting change.
When will I start feeling better?
Many patients notice a difference after their very first session, even if it’s a modest 10-20% improvement. That early shift is often a good sign your body is responding.

Can I get acupuncture while pregnant?

Yes, acupuncture is considered safe during pregnancy. Just let us know so your treatment can be adjusted appropriately.

Do I need to be a chiropractic patient to try acupuncture?

Not at all. While plenty of our patients combine an adjustment with acupuncture in the same visit, it works just as well as a stand-alone treatment.
