Sciatica is the pain you feel along your sciatic nerve. It branches from your lower back all the way down each leg. You can also feel numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg or foot. Usually, you only have sciatica on one side of your body, but it's still painful and uncomfortable! And that is definitely something you shouldn't have to deal with every day.
Most of the time, sciatica is caused when a herniated disc compresses the nerve. If you do experience the pain, numbness, or tingling that comes with sciatica, it's time to call your chiropractor! They'll approach it naturally and use spinal manipulations to get your vertebrae back to their proper position.
So, what can you expect when you come to see Dr. Davis with sciatica pain? Well, first he'll examine and determine the cause of the pain. Yes, you're probably right if you say it's sciatica, especially if you've had it before, but he'll want to make sure so that he's targeting the correct areas and getting you healed as quickly as possible. He may also try to find out what is causing the sciatica so if there's anything you can do to help prevent it from happening again, you're aware of it. Dr. Davis is full of great tips and information and this is just one of the many times he can be helpful to you in more ways than just performing an adjustment!
Then, chances are he'll be ready to get you adjusted! A spinal manipulation will allow the disc to fall back into position and take the pressure off of the nerve. Not only will it lessen the sciatica pain, but you'll also get more mobility and all of the added benefits of getting adjusted!
If there is a specific reason that caused your sciatica, then you already have a pretty good idea on how to prevent it from coming back. But if you're unsure, there are a few things you can do to make sure you're doing the best for your body.
First, is exercise. That seems obvious because exercise is so good for us, whether we're experiencing pain or not. To keep your back strong and healthy, it's important that your core is strong. Plus, unnecessary weight will only cause more strain on your bones and joints and exercise is sure to keep you at a healthy, ideal weight!
Good posture can be really hard for some of us, but it's so important for our backs! When you sit, choose a chair with good back support. If you're uncomfortable, try placing a pillow on the small of your back so it maintains its natural curve. Also, keep your knees and hips level so your back stays straight and upright.
There's no need to deal with pain, so when you're ready for an adjustment and to get your body back to normal, give us a call at 712-560-8913! We'd love to see you and make sure you're feeling your best!
